After Dubuque, Dyersville and Manchester work as selective supporting stops rather than automatic long visits. Independence helps hold the middle before Waterloo and Cedar Falls become the next larger practical anchor. Choose the day’s endpoint before departure so stop decisions do not gradually erase the schedule margin.

Crossing-day checks

Check current road conditions, weather, and river-area visibility before travel. A stop-heavy Illinois day can make a late crossing feel rushed; a long Iowa continuation can do the same in reverse.
