Road trip plan
West Yellowstone to Ashton Scenic Drive
Bounded Route 20 connector outing built around West Yellowstone, Island Park, and Ashton just west of the Yellowstone gap.
West Yellowstone to Ashton Scenic Drive
This is the first fuller Yellowstone-west connector trip on the site for travelers who want the clearest next step after the park gap without treating Yellowstone itself as a routine through-drive.
Uses these segments
- West Yellowstone, Island Park, and Ashton for the park-edge re-entry, the Idaho continuation through Island Park, and the first fuller gateway town at Ashton
Best anchor towns
- West Yellowstone is the clearest west-side re-entry town after the Yellowstone gap
- Island Park is the calmer continuation town once the route resumes in Idaho
- Ashton is the first fuller Idaho gateway base west of the park-side continuation
Yellowstone handoff note
The current site treats Yellowstone in three parts: the east approach into the park from Wyoming, the park interior gap where Route 20 is not being framed as a routine through-drive, and the west re-entry at West Yellowstone. This trip starts at that west re-entry point and carries the route back into Idaho.
Best fit
This trip is a good fit for travelers who want to understand where Route 20 picks back up west of Yellowstone, keep the outing scenic and bounded, and add one more practical Idaho town before later Idaho bundles extend farther west.
Keep going
- Use Wyoming for the east approach into Yellowstone and the current pre-park continuity
- Start shorter with West Yellowstone to Island Park Scenic Drive
- Continue west with Ashton to Rexburg Route 20 Weekend
- Use Idaho for the fuller west-of-Yellowstone state layer
