Brimfield and Sturbridge Route 20 Weekend

Two-day Central Massachusetts itinerary with separate plans for Brimfield antiques-show weekends and ordinary Sturbridge visits.

Bounded route plan Usable starting point

Brimfield and Sturbridge Route 20 Weekend

This itinerary changes with the Brimfield antiques calendar. During show periods, Brimfield controls the schedule. At other times, Sturbridge provides the principal heritage, outdoor, dining, and overnight choices.

Non-market weekend

Day 1: Palmer to Sturbridge

  • Use Palmer as the western railroad, meal, or logistics handoff.
  • Keep Brimfield to a short rural pause.
  • Continue to Sturbridge for dinner and the default overnight.

Day 2: Choose one Sturbridge activity

Choose one:

  • Old Sturbridge Village for a substantial living-history visit.
  • Wells State Park for trails, pond recreation, or a planned outdoor block.

Add town time or a meal only when the principal activity leaves room.

Market weekend

Day 1: Brimfield show

  • Confirm the official show dates and individual field schedules.
  • Allow extra time for Route 20 traffic, parking, walking, weather, and purchases.
  • Stay in Sturbridge, Palmer, or another available nearby base.

Day 2: Choose the pace

  • Return to the market for another focused shopping block, or
  • Use one lighter Sturbridge activity and continue east.

Do not prescribe a full market day and Old Sturbridge Village on the same schedule.

One-day version

Choose either a focused Brimfield market day or one substantial Sturbridge attraction. Outside show periods, Brimfield can remain a brief stop before Sturbridge.
